5 Industries Expected To Thrive Post-Pandemic

By Pradeep Dabas

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a global financial crisis. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that the recession caused by the pandemic would be the worst since the great depression of 2008. Back home in Ireland, things aren’t any better. According to the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), the impact of the pandemic on the Irish economy was worse than the global financial crisis. The virus fundamentally changed everything and was a catalyst for unprecedented changes in every industry. It brought the economy to a standstill and resulted in many businesses struggling to stay afloat.

But it wasn’t all gloom for everyone. Some industries and businesses such as Arkphire and Output Sports saw their profits increase. They are likely to continue flourishing after the pandemic. Others are predicted to recover faster and get back on their feet post-pandemic. These five sectors are predicted to experience a boom post-pandemic:

1. Healthcare

The healthcare industry has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. The pandemic only served to remind people how important the industry is to our well-being. Moving forward, the government is expected to invest heavily in healthcare. People will also take their health more seriously. With increased investments and spending in healthcare, the industry is poised for tremendous growth. Every player in the sector, including hospitals, medical equipment manufacturers, pharmaceuticals, and diagnostics are expected to thrive after the pandemic passes.

How the healthcare industry can leverage digital marketing for growth: Healthcare accessibility will be a priority for most people. People will want to be able to access healthcare services from the comfort of their homes. Telehealth will become a norm and the industry will need to adapt to a digital world. On-demand medical service apps and websites are already becoming commonplace. Local SEO and social media marketing will help healthcare providers to place themselves before the right audiences and get more patients through their doors.

2. At-home fitness

During the pandemic, gyms and other non-essential high-contact places remained closed to limit the spread of the coronavirus. But interest in fitness spiked as people realized the importance of physical fitness to their immunity and mental wellbeing during the lockdown. People are still going to pay attention to physical fitness. But they’ll do so from their homes. They’re now investing in home equipment and fitness apps. They’re also paying for workout programs that they can easily customize to their lifestyles, routines, and fitness needs.

How the fitness industry can leverage digital marketing for growth: At-home fitness isn’t only an opportunity for fitness equipment providers to grow but also fitness instructors and professionals. They can create new tech, smart sportswear, hybrid studios, and customizable fitness programs. The beauty of home fitness is that industry players won’t be limited by physical boundaries. They can leverage social media marketing to reach the ever-growing health-conscious audience wherever and whenever. Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter will allow them to create communities for their products.

3. e-Learning

At the beginning of the pandemic, learning institutions were closed and educators encouraged to find new delivery methods. There was only one solution- online learning. While e-learning has been around for some time, it experienced exponential growth during the pandemic. Things are now opening up and schools are being opened. But it’s unlikely that e-learning will be pushed back to the background as it was pre-coronavirus. Instead, it will grow bigger and perhaps replace physical classes in the near future. Educators can now offer online tuitions to students in any part of the world. Innovators are also developing digital learning and data tools that help in tracking and analyzing student performance and progress.

How the e-learning industry can leverage digital marketing for growth: Traditionally, the education sector has always been the slowest do adopt change and technology globally. But with the surge in homeschooling and virtual classrooms, it can no longer afford to lag behind. From pre-school to tertiary education, the industry will have to offer flexibility to both learners and educators. This means developing smart websites and apps that are tailored to the needs of the administration, teachers, students, and parents. Each can have their portal where they can access relevant information. Institutions that are also able to implement chatbots on their websites for instant answers to their visitors’ queries will be better off.

Furthermore, independent tutors will need to use social media and search engine advertising to get their services in front of their target audiences.

4. Automakers

The automotive industry was among the worst-hit industries by the pandemic. Their sales took a plunge besides production being disrupted by workers staying at home. But experts forecast the industry to be among those that will recover the fastest. The logic behind this is that people will still shun public transportation and will prefer private means of transport. Therefore, there will be an increased uptake of automobiles. This will also be heightened by people having to return to work.

How the automotive industry can leverage digital marketing for growth: Each automaker has a market segment that its products target. Some are luxury brands while others are utility brands. They will therefore need to use digital marketing platforms, such as social media and search engine marketing, that offer a high level of targeting to be able to reach the right buyers. Automakers that have local dealerships will also have to leverage local SEO to target buyers within their geographic locations.

5. Collaboration Technology

Video conferencing app, Zoom, experienced a rise in traffic after the coronavirus broke out. Microsoft Teams and Cisco’s Webex also saw increased usage in Ireland. This was as a result of people having to work from home during the lockdown. Remote collaboration tools rose in popularity during the pandemic. Some people assume that it’s a bubble that will burst post-pandemic when people return to work. But that’s unlikely to happen. Most organizations are considering adopting the new normal and allowing their employees to work from home in the long-term. The collaboration technology industry will still flourish post-pandemic.

How the collaboration technology industry can leverage digital marketing for growth: Companies that provide collaboration technology services can leverage augmented reality and virtual reality make remote collaboration even more immersive. They can use video marketing to push explainer videos and other informative content to enable their audiences to understand how their technology works. It will drive more organizations to adopt the technology. Providing round-the-clock customer support through chatbots will also contribute to their growth.

Other industries that are also expected to experience a boom after the pandemic include cloud computing, cybersecurity, eCommerce, logistics and supply chain, robotics & automation, food delivery, and online gaming among others. This isn’t to mean that the other industries are doomed to die post-pandemic. The world is moving online and any industry or business that will be able to leverage digital platforms will recover and flourish once. All it needs is for a business to tailor its products to a digital audience and adopt effective digital marketing strategies.
